I made a list of 10 of the best sports cities and this is how i did it. I made 6 categories. Attendance, Attendance when team is doing bad (or loyalty), TV Ratings, Playoff Appearances, Merchandise Sales, and Championships. I chopped of all of these categories in to percentiles based on their rankings from 1-10 on each category. Attendance and Loyalty 25% each. TV Ratings were 15%. Merchandise was 10%. Playoff Appearances 20%. And Championships 15%. The reason i put Championships at 15 percent is because being the best sports cities isn't doesn't mean you win a ton of championships. Most of it has to do with the fans. For ex: Florida Marlins and Anaheim Ducks, yeah the won but who cares in their cities? Tell me what you think! 1. New York (TV ratings and Merchandise were what made this win) 2. Chicago (Loyalty and Attendance) 3. Philadelphia (Attendance, Playoff Appearances, TV ratings) 4. Detroit (Attendance, Championships, and Playoff Appearances) 5. L. A. (Merchandise, TV ratings, and Attendance) 6. Boston (Championships, Playoff Appearances, and TV ratings) 7. Denver (TV Ratings and Loyalty) 8. Minneapolis (Loyalty, and Attendance) 9. Dallas (Attendance and TV ratings) 10. St. Louis (Attendance and Loyalty) (What's in Parenthesis is what was the biggest for each city) Detroit lacked what Philadelphia and Chicago had though. Very Successful Football and Baseball teams that had high attendance and loyalty. Which made them jump over Detroit. Pittsburgh didn't make the list because i made the percentages and rankings for the last 8-10 year period and the only really successful team there was the Steelers (Because the Penguins are Newly Popular and the Pirates have been down for a long time). so the rankings hurt them. Although i do agree that they should be up there at around 5th or 6th.... Read More »
